Lunar: Jeff Smith -Designer, Gerard Furbershaw -Designer.Autodesk: Carl Bass -Project Lead, Lucas Prokopiak -Design Engineer, Arthur Harsuvanakit -Designer.This project was a collaboration between Autodesk and Lunar Design: Time Machine has won two Spark design awards for its concept in 2016 : Spark! Award in Prototyping, and Silver in overall concept design The electronics were layed out in Autodesk Circuits. The clock sits on a Limestone base that was cut with a Waterjet.Exterior of the clock was CNCed in aluminum and anodized black. These five-minute, one-hour and half-day transformations create visual and visceral reminders of the passage of time, analogous to each day’s cycling between light and dark.ĭesigned in and fabricated with Fusion360, 25 clocks were made, each with over 40 components: Twelve wings successively rotate 180 degrees to denote five-minute periods while alternating the instrument’s face between dark and light each hour. Each hour is represented by a single segment in a twelve-segment ring-of-lights that progress from one to twelve lighted segments every twelve hours. Its cylindrical void replaces the conventional clock’s central axis and associated hands. Time-Machine is an unorthodox three dimensional time-telling instrument.
